I scroll through thousands of tweets to find books that pique my interest. Then I scroll, click, read and review my book finds so I can share my curated list with you.
What books pique my interest and beckon to me?
A cover that is creative, lovely and inviting.
An author with an interesting bio on Twitter who is an engaging poster.
A book blurb that sounds fresh, intriguing or lyrical.
I have no special formula– just “aha! I can’t wait to read this book.”
I do not solicit manuscripts. I curate these on my own. Because…I am a writer who loves to read, learn and encourage!
“Who am I really? Am I the person everyone sees or the person only I can see?”
I met the author on social media and she nominated me for the Liebster Award. I learned more about her; she is a thoughtful and entertaining blogger. She is also a superb and captivating storyteller.
The book begins with a gimmick, but the plot twist leads to a thoughtful and engaging read. I was hooked by the story of Carin and Leann. On an ordinary Tuesday, they somehow switch bodies. Both are 23 years old, but are at different places in life. Carin is a college graduate and is living the young millennial lifestyle- nice apartment, fitness club, good entry level job. She is proud of her pretty looks. She loses that life in a flash and must inhabit the body and life of Leann. Leann dropped out of high school, is an unmotivated grocery clerk, married to an older abusive man who is involved in shady schemes. She loves her six year old son. She is obese and doesn’t take care of herself.
The story follows how both young women cope with the life-changing switch, and different chapters present each characters POV. Both are well-developed and likable characters, as are most of the other people in their lives. There is a good mix of humor and compassion.
As I read this intriguing and well-written story, a fun page-turner, I wondered how I would have handled being switched to someone else’s body and life. You may be surprised at who learns more, Carin or Leann, from their opportunity to walk a mile in the other’s sneakers. A great read for everyone!
Maybe it’s not about wishing I was someone else. Maybe it’s more about being who I am. It’s the knowledge in the heart that counts.
