A book blurb that sounds fresh, intriguing or lyrical.
I have no special formula– just “aha! I can’t wait to read this book.”
I do not solicit manuscripts. I curate these on my own. Because…I am a writer who loves to read, learn and encourage!
This week I read:
Voice of the Spirit (A Trinity of Death Romantic Suspense Series Book 1)
I met author Charlotte Raine on Twitter. She Direct Messaged me with an invitation to read Voice of the Spirit, which was recently released on January 30, 2106. Ms. Raine promised to do a handstand if I looked at her book. My pleasure!
This book is a Christian romantic suspense book. The Christian romantic suspense genre is on an upward swing in the book market. I have never read this genre before and I may not choose it again, but having said that, Voice of the Spirit is an enjoyable read.
The main characters are Tobias and Lauren, police officers and partners on the job as well as in their personal lives. They met in a prior book, Do You Want to Play. In Voice of the Spirit they are faced with a series of horrible crimes solve involving crucifixions and the kidnapping of a young Christian singer/performer.
The two characters and their interactions are the best part of this book. They have a serious work relationship and a more playful personal side. Tobias has grown away from his Christian faith, while Lauren strives to live her beliefs. The author presents the issues of their faith journeys in a fair and thoughtful manner. Both of them have faced personal family issues in their past.
I liked the pacing of the mystery and how Tobias and Lauren solved the crime. The book ends with a cliffhanger and more to come in the second book in the series, which was released in February, 2016. While I would have liked even more focus on the police procedures, the book is fast paced and thrilling. I recommend Voice of the Spirit to you as a good read.
Charlotte Raine has written more than 10 “killer thriller” bestsellers and you can learn more about them on her website. She lives near Vail, Colorado.
