When lonely widow Kitty Merriweather moves to Derbyshire’s Hope Valley, she joins the Silver Rose online dating site because it offers a safe place for the over sixties to find romance.
There, she meets the enigmatic Harvey, a scientist working on a conservation project in Bali who promises her “hot days and stormy nights.”
Love blooms quickly but Kitty breaks all the rules laid down by the agency, putting herself at risk. When little things don’t add up she dismisses them as being unimportant. Nothing matters more than her plans for them to live happily ever after.
When she confides in her new friend, Edna Reid, octogenarian and former café owner, Kitty gets angry at Edna’s implication she is likely the victim of a scam. The more Edna hears about Harvey, the more she is convinced he’s only interested in Kitty for her money.
Using her knowledge of computers Edna finally uncovers the truth, but where does black magic and murder fit into this intriguing cosy mystery?

JENA’S REVIEW
The Silver Rose Dating Agency: A Peak District Cosy Mystery by Angelena Boden
Charmingly lovable elderly Edna Reid is back in the second book of the Peak District Cozy Mystery series. In the first book of the series, Edna opened a Death Café. She held this weekly meeting in her eatery, The Happy Oatcake. So, you can see that even though she is a bit quirky, she has a positive heart. She also lives in the small village of Hope. Hope features “a village green, a misshapen triangle of rough grass dotted with clover and discarded pull rings”. As an American reader, Hope is just the small English town that I love to visit and get to know all about.
Edna likes to do puzzles to help keep her fading brain sharp. Despite her worries about aging, she is a stout and practical gal, just the one you need when puzzling events begin. This time, Edna must deal with the Silver Rose Daring Agency. Is it a scam? And when troublesome events occur, can Edna sort the clues of newcomer and wealthy widow, Kitty, drunk and troubled church organist Ned, and the strange Satanic people invading her sweet town? Can Edna help heal her community?
As Edna says, small villages are full of characters and prying neighbors, which at times can be a good thing. Edna is helped by her good friends Manny, Olive and Alisa. The colorful friends and the interesting cozy mystery, as seen through Edna’s wise eyes, make for a delightful read.
Turns out, Edna can track an IP address with the best of them. The story blends tears and smiles, surprises and humor. Who doesn’t want to read about Hope? Highly recommended. And I hope another “Edna” book is coming soon!
