I scroll through thousands of tweets to find books that pique my interest. Then I click, read and review my book finds so I can share my curated list with you.
What books pique my interest and beckon to me?
I have no special formula– just “aha! I can’t wait to read this book.”
I do not solicit manuscripts. I curate these on my own. Because…I am a writer who loves to read, learn and encourage!
This week I read:
🏔It peaked my interest because: time travel is intriguing!
“How do you start all over again in a time that’s not your own?”
Author Kate Reigstad gives us a playful, and imaginative YA novel that will also resonate with adults, especially those who remember what life was like 30 years ago. Many of us are intrigued by time travel- but would we want to be catapulted twenty-six years into the future?
Natalie Raider goes on vacation with her family in the 1980’s and is rescued from the Atlantic ocean in 2012. Nat sails through a series of adventures and problems that will captivate the YA reader. I am not sure about the science involved in this tale, but I do know that this much older reader was entertained by the “back to the future” fun, secrets, and surprises.
Fast Forward features well-drawn main characters, and Holden, a teenage boy is appealing. The bond that develops between him and Natalie left me misty-eyed. Ms. Reigstad creates a believable premise and stays true to the time-travel theme throughout the book. The author is also deft with her descriptions. My voice was raspy, rusty, a door unopened for centuries.
For those of you with teenagers, it might be fun to share this book and see the world through each others eyes. All ages will have fun with this clever novel.
“I’d give anything to be seventeen again. To do it right this time.”
Kate Reigstad has a new young adult trilogy in the works and has released an adult novel, When Knight Falls, a twist on Don Quixote. Here is her website.
