UPDATE: I was pleased to read this interview with the author of STONE COTTAGE, Maighread MacKay. Ms. MacKay explains how her quest to understand ghosts and spirits led her to write her well-written and enjoyable novel. Thanks to Mary Anne Yarde.

Stone Cottage by Maighread MacKay
Have you ever wondered about your soul, your ancestors, how the mists of time shape your life today? Author MacKay deftly and lyrically weaves these issues into the complex tapestry of STONE COTTAGE. We meet Rebecca and her modern concerns with work/life balance. She is a busy mother and career woman and she is recovering from panic attacks. She begins to discover that perhaps her panic is rooted in something more distant in her past.
Her character, while carefully crafted by the author, did not engage me as much as the saga of the stone cottage. In the author’s hands, the old stone cottage becomes more than a setting, and is a character, too. The cottage beckons to Rebecca, who discovers the place on a drive through the country. As Rebecca explores the house and grounds she meets visions from her past. She sees the ghost of Victoria Ann and her 1800’s life. I was spellbound and moved by the stories of “Annie”, as we see her parents, her life and then her catastrophic end. You will be enthralled by these people as you learn that earth and time are more transparent than we think.
Author Maighread MacKay has created a well-written and lyrical story, with lovely descriptions and moving passages. I enjoyed the stories of the main characters, and found this book to be an entrancing read. I am not interested in life regressions and ghosts, etc. but if you are, this will add to your pleasure in reading this book.
“You have freed a tired soul from it’s earthly bondage…stay the course and have a happy life.”
Author Maighread MacKay is also the author of a thoughtful collection of short stories, STEPPING STONES. Coming soon is a story, Once Upon a Summer’s Eve. She has also written three children’s books under the name Margaret Hefferman.
