You’ve seen it on TV. It’s so cool! The Invisible Box Challenge is a social game in which people film themselves mime tapping on an imaginary box and stepping over a roughly foot-high step. If you wondering how to get more hits on your blog or YouTube channel- here you go! Learn to do the Invisible Box Challenge.
A few weeks ago, I wrote about how important it is to unleash your inner border collie so you can stay agile- both mentally and physically. I thought the box challenge would be a super way to dazzle my friends and have fun. Turns out, I can only do it if I have a handsome fitness god holding me up on each side, so I won’t be post any videos of myself just yet. But you should try it.
Strengthen you legs and core. I’ll wait a few weeks, years for you to do that.
Sell your performance. Use your acting and mime skills to convince others- and yourself!- that’s there’s an imaginary box in front of you. Pretend tap it with your hand.
Ready for what the pros refer to as “the Tricky Part”? Once your foot is placed firmly on the imaginary box you need to hop over it while keeping the raised leg in place. Tense the raised leg to hold it and then hop the other leg forward. The quicker and higher you jump, the easier this part is. While jumping, make sure you don’t lose focus of the box and keeping a foot on it.
Here’s another way to explain it in case you didn’t do it really well the first time. Jump by lifting your opposite leg higher than your stationary leg. You have to have enough force and leg strength to get your other foot higher than the foot on the box. While you’re jumping high with your opposite leg, you have to make sure your box leg doesn’t move.
You can use a pillow or stuffed animal as a substitute for the box and practice first with that.
And Don’t Hurt Yourself!
There’s a reason so many people have trouble with the gravity-defying trick. We’re all klutzes. OK a kinder way to say that is it’s not just your legs that are responsible for getting it done: Your entire body has to engage to hold one leg in place while the other leg is in motion. Yes, your glutes, your core, your back, your shoulders…your whole body has to be in cahoots because everything has to lift up. In addition to a fabulous body you need good proprioception skills. Proprioception is your ability to know where your body is in space and time. People also call it spatial awareness.
I call this all unbelievable. Good luck!
