Time to party! I wrote my first book and it was released a few months ago. I enjoyed the entire writing, editing and design process, thanks to the professional team at iUniverse publishing. Then they told me to market and promote my book. Wait…what!?
I decided to have a Book Launch Party. Shades of Bella Fleece Gave a Party- what if no one came? (Here is a summary of this short story by Evelyn Waugh. If you have ever stressed over planning an event, you may not want to click the link.)
I chose to have a complimentary wine tasting, a champagne punch, hearty appetizers- and cupcakes!- at my club and I picked a lucky date- November 13.
I developed and followed a comprehensive promotional plan. I bombarded, I mean targeted, people using my social media platforms and my email newsletter, and my dear spouse and I distributed over 500 postcards to every home in my neighborhood. (Word to the wise, Bella Fleece- you skipped these steps.) And I made my sister come and bring her friends. The venue also promoted my book launch through their newsletters and social media.
I made new friends and we developed an idea to create a writer’s group at the club. I connected with a local media person and I squealed and jumped when blast from the past buddies strolled in.
As the party ended, one of the servers said to me, “You had a great turn out and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I hope you had fun celebrating YOU.”
Thanks to everyone who made the effort to come!
