Books that I loved!
In my neck of the woods, it’s not quite time for reading on the beach. But it’s a good time to read in the sun room, or on my porch. Here are three books of different genres that will entertain you.

Beach Wedding Weekend by Rachel Magee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
What’s the popular advice to be happy in today’s world? Aren’t we supposed to take care of ourselves? One of the best ways for me to relax and have “me time” is to read a Hallmark book. And Beach Wedding Weekend is a perfect way to give yourself the joy of relaxing. Whether you read it on the beach, your front porch, or with your doggie on your bed, you will adore the main character, sweet Paige.
The author does a wonderful job of placing us in Paige’s world. Whether she is in the Texas Hill Country at a gorgeous resort, or at Florida’s Emerald Coast for a weekend wedding, you will feel like you have been there! And if you are like me, you will want to plan your next vacation on the white sandy beach, by the blue-green water.Oh, what a lovely movie this would make!
Page is a wedding planner, and I don’t believe there is one as pretty, kind, and organized as she is. She longs to get back with her old boyfriend, Brody. So, she and her gal pals come up with a plan to get him back during the wedding weekend. They plan a cute diversion, but they forgot to plan for Aiden. Many of us are looking for a guy like Aiden! Especially the way he is described in the book. No wonder he has an effect on Page!
Readers, you will enjoy all the characters in the book. Sasha is an especially interesting character. Be good to yourself and read Beach Wedding Weekend.
Thank you Hallmark Publishing via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.
Then… by Carol Marrs Phipps
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
It’s here- the long-awaited sequel and second book in the Timewalker series by writing dynamos Carol Marrs Phipps and Tom Phipps. Look at the gorgeous and compelling cover of this book. (I would have named the book “Wow!”) And “Wow!” is also what I said after I finished reading the book.
The idea of “Timewalkers” is a good way to understand this YA Dystopian book. In this story, we are connected to fairy-type beings from the past, hundreds of years before the main events of this book, which takes place in the near-future. And in a particularly wonderful twist, the main characters visit a town 100 years in the past. So, you can see that the authors have created a large and marvelous canvas for this story.
My favorite characters from the first book in the series are back in Book 2. LongBark is a female everwaking oak who is the oldest, wisest and most magically potent begin on earth, even more than the head of the fairies, Meri Greenwood. Maxi is a troll barber and friend of Tess’s father, the fairy Kellen Greenwood. The main heroine is Tess Greenwood, who is half fairy and half human. Morrigan, the skinwalker is part of the story, along with her other form, Bart the crow.
The evil potentate Pandora and her World Alliance are back, concocting even more evil and ingenious plans to destroy the world, as she waits for the birth of Nia’s baby. The science of their exploits and plots is fascinating. Just as Tess and her loyal band work even harder to persevere against the World Alliance and also try to save Nia, so does the Potentate become increasingly more aggressive and abusive. The book ends in a flurry of adventure that promises an even more exciting Book 3.
And yet amidst the evil, is a more thoughtful and loving Pandora revealed in this book? The character development is another reason that this book and series are mesmerizing.
There are so many amazing creatures to get to know in this book- it is also entertaining to read the detailed “General Dramatic Personae” that is included. I hope you have read Wham, the first book in the series so you can dive into Then.
Highly recommend.
DYING FOR JUSTICE: She wanted the truth – They wanted her dead by Pauline Isaksen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I will start my review with the bottom line. DYING FOR JUSTICE is a thrilling legal suspense story with an intriguing heroine, and a fast-paced “what happens next???” plot. Excellent start of a new series!
Now I will tell you how I came to read this book. About six months again, I received an email from the author, asking if I would review her book. I almost said no, as I didn’t know her at all, but she included a photo of her family, and it was such a beautiful group, I agreed. Then, I put the copy on the bottom of my virtual TBR pile.
I finally decided to look at it, and once I started- I read it straight through! Great book, and if you like legal procedurals, British version (nobody wears wigs in court, though) you will especially enjoy this pulse-raising book. Plenty of wows!
A successful legal procedural needs memorable characters, and this book has them. Julia Ainsworth is a young lawyer, who works in a prestigious London firm with her successful father. She takes on a new case, involving a teenager who appears to have shot and killed a man on his parent’s estate. Was it a hunting accident or murder? Was the boy the killer? The police evidence seems to unequivocally point to murder and the boys pleads guilty. Julia decides to prove his innocence.
She is helped by a friend, Danny, a former police specialist and his friend, Chris a former M-15 agent. Both guys are handsome and appealing. We also get to know the accused’s parents, and Julia’s father. On the surface, Julia seems to have an enviable life, great job and privileged lifestyle, but she is haunted by her mother’s death and she also seems to have trouble connecting with people, both men and women.
Julia’s determination to find the truth stirs up a complex scenario that reaches to governmental levels and threatens her own life on several occasions. Several characters in addition to the teenager could be the killer. Some of the evidence seems to be dangerously close to Julia, and her troubling past.
As you read, you may come close to solving the murder- but there are plenty of incredible events at the end of the book that will keep you in doubt. The author has crafted a well-paced and consuming mystery and I enjoyed how she injected high-tech procedures into the story. I am eager for more books from this author. And I will read them right away next time!
I received a digital review copy from the author and this is my honest review.
