Today we welcome Charlotte Angstrom Eddy McAntic, better know as Charli. She is the book character in the fictional series, The Golden Age of Charli. In the books, she is a positive and happy presence, as she sorts out her retirement life and her family. So, let’s use that thought as a starting point and get to know Charli.
Charli, welcome. My first…
Thank you! It’s so nice of you to have me. How are you? How are your kids- sorry I forget how old they are now.
Thanks. Yes the kids are fine, thanks for remembering them. So are you really like how you are…
Oh, I am just a regular person, right. Just trying to keep my family loved and happy. Now, you Jena, you are doing so much. Writing books, blogs, doing workshops. Learning all this technology and social media. You know, I like all the new gadgets, too. Jena, I am so proud of you. I have always loved to read books and I even thought about being a writer.
Yes, it’s been a fun and exciting experience for me. Getting back to my first…
And I should be thanking you. You are the one who has worked so hard to share my story, to create books! Wow! I really like how you have brought to life the problems and praises of creating a meaningful way to retire. I wish I had your gifts.
Um…well, thanks for your kind words. So, let’s talk about retirement and what you…
Did you know that many people are disillusioned with their retirement? Have you heard about gray divorce, Jena? I want to connect with folks and share with them, and learn from them too, about how to find joy in the Golden Years, with your spouse, family, friends. You know when…
Let’s talk about the so-called Golden Years. You say folks are disillusioned with retire…
Like I was saying, when I was young, that was the era when being over 30 was considered old. I thought by the time I was in my 50’s or 60’s that I would be ancient, ready to be the old gray mare out to pasture. But now, it turns out that we all still feel young. Well, if we are blessed with good health. We are pursuing new hobbies, interests, and…
Tell us more about what should retirees be doing to create a …
Jena, remember that jump rope jingle from when we were kids on the playground?
First comes love, then comes marriage,
then comes Charli pushing the baby carriage?
I loved to jump rope and hopscotch, too. Oh, and did you love jacks, my friends and I would…well, to get back to the jump rope rhyme, it didn’t keep going did it? What were we supposed to do after the baby carriage?
Charli, what should we do?
I think the best thing to do is to
. Be positive, cast a wider net and look for the joy in life.
You and your husband Pud had some romantic pratfalls in the first book. And in the second book, things go crazy in Cancun. Anything you want to share with us?
Ah, love and romance in the sunset years! I may have silver hair, but passion is still on my mind! I can remember my mother and grandma telling me to change into a clean dress and have a nice meal ready when my husband came home from work. That sounds a bit dated now, but the truth is, we should focus on keeping our partner happy.
Well said. Any other advice for us?
How about my favorite motto “Press On!”
I still have lots of questions to ask you, I hope you can come back again. Thank you for your time.
My pleasure! Thank you! I was a little nervous about being interviewed, but you did such a good job, you made it fun for me. I would love to chat with you again- I’ll bring some wine the next time!
