I can’t wait to share this adorable feel-good book with you! Everyone should have a summer like our earnest and cautiously hopeful heroine. Going topless was the best thing she ever did! Let’s learn more about this smile of a book and the author. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources.
Candice Summerville is invisible. No one seems to notice her – not really. Heck, she often doesn’t notice herself, except for her monthly scrutiny in the mirror to check on her body’s steady slide towards middle age.
But when her ancient, practical estate car is consigned to the scrap heap, Candice falls in love with a cute, purple convertible, and from that moment on her life begins to take on a whole new meaning. Strangers wave at her and people stop to talk, and suddenly she isn’t invisible any longer.
Life seems to be looking up, especially when she meets silver fox and handy-man, Paul. There’s just one fly in the ointment, one thing she that has her second-guessing herself.
Is it the car that Paul sees – or is it her?
JENA’S REVIEW
The Summer of Going Topless by Liz Davies
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Well, I did know that the hashtag for this summer is #HotGirlSummer, but I didn’t know we were going topless. But after reading Liz Davies’ delightful book, I’m #Solid.
We’re talking about a convertible. But you knew that, right? So, jump in the car with me and I’ll tell you why I enjoyed this light-hearted romance.
Our heroine, Candice Summerville is in the slow lane of life. No one notices her, and she doesn’t really notice much around her, either. She dresses sensibly in dark colors. She is in a foggy routine that takes her from work to home. Her mother recently passed away. Now, she’s almost 50.
“She’d spent most of her adult life taking care of her husband and family and had paid only a token gesture to taking care of herself.” Her young adult children have left the nest and are doing well. She’s been divorced for over ten years; the breakup of her marriage was hard.
What a woebegone life- until she finds Jelly Bean! Sometimes, it takes just one spark to make a difference and for Candice, her life begins to change (or rather SHE begins to change) the day her old car dies. When her mechanic loans her a Mazda convertible sports car, the road opens up for Candice again and she and Jelly Bean (her pet name for her new car friend) begin to thrive. #Bae
Readers, you will be delighted with the opportunities that Candice now sees and the hope she begins to express. From yoga to romance, Candace is ready to embrace it. “She had lost herself in her marriage and she had found herself again now. She had finally become the person she was meant to be.”
Author Davies writes with a light, clear style filled with whimsy and joy. She writes humor with a deft touch and presents us with a variety of loveable and believable characters. I know you will enjoy Candice’s summer of going topless, and you may want to create your own #HotGirlSummer. #5Stars

Liz Davies writes feel-good, light-hearted stories with a hefty dose of romance, a smattering of humour, and a great deal of love.
She’s married to her best friend, has one grown-up daughter, and when she isn’t scribbling away in the notepad she carries with her everywhere (just in case inspiration strikes), you’ll find her searching for that perfect pair of shoes. She loves to cook but isn’t very good at it, and loves to eat – she’s much better at that! Liz also enjoys walking (preferably on the flat), cycling (also on the flat), and lots of sitting around in the garden on warm, sunny days.
She currently lives with her family in Wales, but would ideally love to buy a camper van and travel the world in it.
