Maggie Moone is happily divorced.
And with her talent for fixing things, she’s perfectly content with her mundane life in the sleepy English village of Saffron Sweeting. That is, until one humiliating March evening when she learns everyone else assumes she’d love to mend her broken marriage.
Determined to prove them wrong, Maggie and her friends concoct a list of ten ways to assert her independence and live large. But her mission to move on leads to unexpected encounters, and Maggie soon finds herself mixing business with pleasure. Is the attractive young Irishman just another item on her list, or is he something more?
Before long, unresolved issues from her past begin to clash, and Maggie is forced to wonder if antagonising her ex-husband was such a stellar idea.
No sooner does she begin to understand what’s important to her, than she stands to lose everything that truly matters.
This is the fourth in the collection of Saffron Sweeting romantic comedies, which can be read in any order. If you like gentle British humour and deliciously resilient heroines, you’ll love Ten Things My Husband Hated.

JENA’S REVIEW
Ten Things My Husband Hated by Pauline Wiles
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I sedately agree with this line from the blurb for author Pauline Wile’s latest book in the Saffron Sweeting Series: “If you like gentle British humour (or ‘humor’) and deliciously resilient heroines, you’ll love Ten Things My Husband Hated.” Between you and me- I was excited and delighted with this book. I just used the word ‘sedately’ in the first sentence because I was trying to go with the calm, British style of this series. But I’m American, so enough of being proper- squee! This is a darling read!
Author Wiles continues her congenial series set in an English village near Cambridge, and this little place has all the English tidbits we Americans love to read about- the bossy post mistress, the café with tea cakes, the neighborhood pub. This time the heroine is Maggie. Maggie is recently divorced from Colin, and her girlfriends, and perhaps most of the villagers fear that she hasn’t moved on from him. As we know, girlfriends tend to wade in with wine where angels fear to tread, and the gal pals come up with a scheme to help Maggie blossom again.
Their plan is quirky and Maggie goes for it, and part of the plot focuses on how that all turns out for Maggie. We see her change from quiet, dutiful and uncertain to someone with captivating creativity and a giving spirit. The best part of the story for me, is the growing relationship between Maggie and Finn, the quiet Irish charmer. The scene with Finn and his “Maggie Moone” in the beach hut is a beautiful example of the power of words to convey love and passion.
The dialogue and descriptions in the book will satisfy all readers who want to savor the British way of life. There are enough surprises to make this readable and engaging. A little secret from the cover of the book- the tree with the ladder points to a charming part of this gentle book.
I highly recommend that you relax with this positive and engaging romantic comedy. If you have read the earlier books in the series then you know that Saffron Sweeting is a sunny place. And if this is your first time in the village, you will enjoy yourself. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for a digital review copy. This is my honest review.
