Holly Tierney-Bedord is in my Favorite Authors Hall of Fame. She has written over 20 novels and novellas. An HTB story features quirky characters with heart, whimsy, sometimes a dash of magical realism, and ALWAYS a well-told story. Thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources and the author, for a review copy of this holiday mystery novella that is pure holly jolly hilarious holiday entertainment!
From the author of Kindle Unlimited All-Star winner Sweet Hollow Women comes a new novella featuring characters from Murder at Mistletoe Manor, Carnage at the Christmas Party, and The Port Elspeth Jewelry Making Club!
Klarinda Snow is the innkeeper of Mistletoe Manor in beautiful, remote, Windy Pines, Idaho, where she brings her unique brand of hospitality to the tiny mountain town.
When she finds her inn unexpectedly fully booked on a snowy Tuesday night in November, it brings back memories of a tragedy years before. Before she knows what hit her, she and her trusty team of employees (Myrtle, Pierre, and her new night manager, Josephine), have found themselves back at the task of solving another mystery at Mistletoe Manor!
While this book can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novella, if you plan to read the books in the Windy Pines Mystery series or The Port Elspeth Jewelry Making Club, it’s highly recommended you read those first, as this book contains spoilers that could affect your ability to enjoy them.
JENA’S REVIEW
In the Heart of Windy Pines by Holly Tierney-Bedord
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Holly Tierney-Bedord is in my Favorite Authors Hall of Fame. She has written over 20 novels and novellas. An HTB story features quirky characters with heart, whimsy, sometimes a dash of magical realism, and ALWAYS a well-told story.
In the Heart of Windy Pines is a cozy mystery novella, featuring a woman sleuth, Klarinda Snow. Klarinda owns and operates a quaint inn, Mistletoe Manor, in the obscure town of Windy Pines, Idaho. A small coterie of odd characters helps her run the inn. One feature of HTB’s books that tickles me is that the characters often have witty names. The plumber is named Rod Showers. One of the guests is Earl Morn.
The story begins on a weeknight. The inn is unexpectedly full. Turns out, a big blizzard is moving in, and travelers are seeking refuge at Mistletoe Manor. Soon, they will all be snowed in. Oh, no! Hasn’t this happened before at Mistletoe Manor?
Yes, it has-with dire consequences. But Klarinda tells herself not to worry, especially since she fancies one of the guests, a handsome man named Neil. However, readers know that we now have a delectable locked-room mystery, a la Agatha Christie, except with much more hilarity. You may be able to help Klarinda solve the murder mystery, but the primary purpose of this story is to make you laugh and smile.
At the beginning of the book, the author tells us “This book has characters you will recognize from Holly’s books Murder at Mistletoe Manor, The Port Elspeth Jewelry Making Club, and Carnage at the Christmas Party. While this book is a standalone read, you will want to read the afore-mentioned books BEFORE reading this, so you don’t ruin any surprises for yourself.” I did read the books, but I forgot most of the salient points, (I’m old) so go ahead and read and enjoy this story regardless.
Thanks to the author and Rachel’s Random Resources for a review copy. This is my honest review.
