JAM SESSION!

For me, it’s not “jam and bread”, it’s “jam and Maureen”. In social media years, Maureen and I go way back. A few years ago, a marketing rep at the self-publisher we both used recommended that she contact me to learn about my experiences with their services. We jammed and she hammed it up and we learned from each other as fledging authors. Here’s my first post about Maureen. 

I have always had a weight problem.  For forty-five years, I have watched the numbers on the scale go up and down. So, not only was it fun for me to get to know Maureen, I was so happy to read her book, The I’m Possible Journey- Learning to Live with Sugar Addiction. I found out that Maureen is a great guide to have on the journey to health and awareness. She has a lively and agile wit that pairs well with brie and red wine…NO THAT’S ME GETING OFF TRACK. Maureen tracks it all much better than I do.

So what does this all have to do with writing in my jammies? Here we go:

1. Maureen sent me a jar of her marvelous sweet and spicy jam. 

2. Maureen recently wrote a post on jam, Traffic Jam See, I told you she was fun and witty!

I retweeted her post and, trying to keep up with her, said something about, “I’ll read this post in my jammies.”

I realized, that not only do I read in my jammies, I also write in my jammies. I write every day in them. But if you Google, Why you shouldn’t work at home in your pajamas, you’ll get 4,220,000 results. Results that imply and even command that you should never write in your PJ’s because you won’t be professional, you won’t take it seriously, in fact, you won’t even work.

Whatever. Here are 5 reasons why I write in my jammies. (starting with 5 and working toward the most important reason)

1. It doesn’t matter if I spill coffee on my jammies.

2. I’m comfortable!

3. I don’t waste time in the morning. I get up, brush my teeth, mumble good morning, make coffee, start working! 

Speaking of not wasting time, here’s a post by Karin Gillespie on starting your day at 4 am! Yes, that’s when one of my favorite authors begins her writing time. I wonder if she wears her robe and pj’s?

4. I’m not tempted to stop working and go out, whether it’s for a walk or to a cafe or shopping. I stay at my desk in my jammies instead of impulsively going “somewhere”.

5. Writers’ brains work the best when writers are consistent. Write at the same time each day, in the same place, in the same way. So my brain knows it’s morning, jammies, coffee and then writing time!
